MY WHY FOR SHOOTING BOUDOIR
WHY BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY
Sometimes I find it hard to put into words why I shoot Boudoir photography. To me, it is so much more than photos. It's about self-acceptance, body positivity, Empowering Women and art. It's about getting glammed up and laughing your butt off. It's about the transformation that takes place between the time you walk into my studio and walk back out that door with certainty and conviction. It's about feeling beautiful, and that is something that I believe every person deserves.
I started photographing boudoir photography because I saw the beauty in everyone that entered our studio. I believed that I could show any person to see what I see through my camera lens. Women share with me that they feel, they can't look "that beautiful" because they feel too tall , weigh too much, or have too many stretch marks or that they have never liked how they look in photographs. I loved showing them the images from their session and showing that they CAN in fact feel beautiful. Seeing their reaction to their images changed me. They ordered custom wall art for their homes so they have a daily reminder that they are Badass Beautiful! From that moment, I knew I had found my obsession.
It was now my job to be the mirror for my clients. Not the mirror that the world shows you, that shames you, but the one that sees past all of your lumps, bruises and imperfections. The one that shows you your sparkle!
THE TRANSFORMATION
The transformation that takes place in our studio is the best part of the whole experience for us. When a woman arrives at my studio, most of the time she's nervous sometimes even visibly nervous. Shaky hands and voices, sweaty hands and faces are things I see all the time. Once they sit in the chair to get their make up done, listening to their favorite music, the transformation begins. The client slowly starts to shed those signs and feelings of nervousness and anxiousness.
Then the session beings. The first series is to get you all warmed up. When I show the client the back of the camera after the first look, I usually hear, "OH MY G_D! THAT"S ME?!? NO WAY, THAT'S ME?!?" As we go into the next look and then the next, the laughter and smile start to come out. Then she starts to feel sexy. Then sexy eyes come out. And you can tell that is starting to click with them. Sometimes, our clients are dancing and guaranteed to laugh and have fun!
A LITTLE PIECE OF MY STORY
Turning 40 was a transformational time in my life to say the least. Wow, looking back (I am now 56,) how has it even been 16 years? I remember when the realization hit me that my body was changing; I had to eat less and exercise more for the first time, in. my. life. I had to start making different choices on so many levels. How did that even happen? I was having a hard time even recognizing and embracing the woman staring back at me in the mirror. I met the love of my life at a friend’s 40th birthday party and at 42 was married and became a wife and mom. I opened my heart, my world to my husband and his family and in turn, his support.
I gave myself permission to start finding things that I loved about my evolving body and these newfound experiences of being a wife and a mom. In the past, I was so laser focused on my photography business and now I was able to open my heart and my world to my husband and his family who is so supportive of me. Suddenly, I was free to start sharing with my clients what incredible goddesses they are. I realized it was because I was that mirror for them. I could care for them, hold space, pamper them and reflect back to them their inner and outer beauty through my work as a Portrait Photographer. If I could have a conversation with my 40 year old self, I would simply say “it is OKAY, in fact everything works out. Everything is lining up for you in ways you never could have dreamed…” and when I think about that woman I was; experiencing all of the shame and the fear of her journey and her body, her spirit, and her heart it makes me remember that I could have used a beacon of light in that tunnel. Even a ray of hope and that is what I want to create today for you.
I want to pamper you and celebrate you.
YUP! THAT'S ME A MY PHOTO SESSION!
I wanted to experience what my clients are going though being on the other side of the camera so every couple of years, I hire a photographer to photograph me.
For me, Boudoir photography is a celebration of your body and who YOU truly are. Some clients are celebrating birthday milestones while others are celebrating divorce or their sexy AF Era, no matter what that is to you. LOL.
I take pride in being able to help show women how to celebrate their bodies, their battles and their victories they've been through. Let me show you your sparkle. Let me help remind you how to love and be proud of yourself.
